Barcelona is one of the most photographed cities in the world and one of the most visited in Europe. The architecture there is fascinating, the works of Gaudi seen in many parts of the city can inspire anyone to take many photos and of course share it on social media. Along with that there is plenty of places to enjoy breathtaking views of the city, and plenty of instagramable restaurants. Here is a list of my current favourite spots that I can’t resist capturing.
Taking a picture at Parc Guell famous bench is a must when in Barcelona. During the summer months this place gets filled with tourists, so my tip would be to visit it when they first open to avoid the large crowds.
A Gaudi’s masterpiece! Casa Batllo is better photographed in the morning when the sun hits the building just right due to its location. I highly recommend taking a tour of the premises to learn about the history and fun facts of the building, and on the summer months you can enjoy tapas at their rooftop along with live music.
Bunker del Carmel
This is the place for a panoramic view of the city! Originally an anti-aircraft battery during the Civil War and left abandoned for years until a few curious people started visiting it for its privileged views. Now it is becoming more and more popular, with many people enjoying an afternoon picnic while watching the sunset.
Palau de la Música Catalana
This building is referred as an architectural jewel of Catalan Art Nouveau and the only concert venue to be listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO. The exteriors have plenty of mosaic details, stained glasses and sculptures to capture the attention of anyone that walks by. Guided tours are available and something I plan on doing on my next visit as the interiors are supposed to be even more impressive!
Casa Amatller is another stunning building by Gaudi, adjacent to Casa Batllo. This block is known as the “mansana de la discordia” or block of discord, because it features buildings in sharply contrasting styles.
A famous market in La Rambla offering a huge variety of food for every possible taste! An array of colourful fruits covers many stalls along with fresh juices and smoothies (my favorites) and also olives, cheeses, meats to name a few.
Tropico is by far the prettiest cafe in Barcelona serving healthy and beautifully presented dishes and drinks. A great atmosphere with very charming interiors and they sure live up to their name, Trópico.
